The Victorian State Government is offering teenage drivers in rural regions who are short on funds $5000 to trade in their old, dangerous vehicle for a newer one. Ben Carroll, the minister of roads, recently revealed the intention to broaden a taxpayer-funded pilot initiative that began in Ballarat and Bendigo last year.

In the most recent iteration of the trial programme, 150 young drivers between the ages of 18 and 25 with VicRoads accounts would receive a $5000 subsidy to assist them trade in their outdated, at least 16-year-old vehicle for something newer—and likely safer.
